Have you ever recognized a time in your life when a relationship, season, or job had run its course? Did you leave or separate from it, or did you stay too long? Why? Did you do it because you were fearful or because you did not have all of the necessary and satisfying answers that you needed to hear? How many times do we choose to do things in our fleshly powers?
There will always be paths we must take that lead us to an end or another season. It simply means that an adventure of life ends, and we must remember that all things are not forever. Some things are meant for a season. These seasons involve people, ministries, friends, and occupations. The path to adulthood teaches us what we believe, why we believe, and how we believe, which leads to maturation (for most of us). We will take winding roads and detours along the way. We will often think about the substantial amount of time we have before we ask the question of where does the journey lead, where does it end, and what was the purpose? In this travel, we must remember that there is a call and a purpose in our lives. Once we have fulfilled a purpose, time moves on and the next season begins. We must be prepared to accept and recognize the signs, and we must embrace the inevitable and look forward to the next path with joy and great anticipation.
In migrating into the next season, we can not stay in the past out of doubt, guilt, a sense of loyalty, or fear. We must remember that “…God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7). It may serve us well to read chapter 1 in its entirety to understand why we don’t stand in fear. In leaving our footprint or our legacy, our greatest hope should be that we have given our best, served with love and joy, and that we did it well. What lies ahead should be embraced with the same anticipation that we are able to make an impact in a positive and memorable way. We don’t need all of the answers, but we should rest in the confidence that God is walking this path with us. No regrets. No looking back. Keep with a spirit of anticipation, excitement, and faith on the winding and never-ending path to your next season.
