(The Beginning of Holy Week Pt. 4)
For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Matthew 12:40
As we reflect on Holy Week and its implications, we learn about the infinite love of God who sent his Son so that we might live. This Saturday is a day of reflection for us as we prepare to celebrate a risen Savior. It is a time that we reflect on the meaning of the torn veil at the very time that Jesus took his last breath. The moment is symbolic that His sacrifice, the shedding of His blood, was an abundant atonement for our sins. As we reflect, also think of the number of times that Jesus spoke of his death and resurrection.
They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him, and kill him. Three days later he will rise.” Mark 10:32-34
Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. John 2:19-22
When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the disciples were filled with grief. Matthew 17:22-23
“A little while, and you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me.” Some of His disciples then said to one another, “What is this thing He is telling us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?” So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.”read more. John 16:16-22
As we prepare for the celebration of Easter, consider doing the following:
Give thanks for family and friends.
Pray for our churches, pastors, and leaders.
Praise God for those who have gone on to glory!
Pray for those who are non-believers.
Pray for your enemies.
Approach the throne with a heart full of love for Christ!
And give God the glory for sacrificing His one and only Son!
Appreciate being loved!
