A New Season, A New Peace

The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace. Psalm 29:11

The past year has not been one without heartache, pain, and exhaustion. But it has been a year of remaining faithful, hopeful, and obedient. Friends have been waiting for me to write some tribute to the ones that I have lost this year, and I don’t know that I have anything to say on that subject right now. I can say that the past year has been the testing of my faith. We throw around phrases like “I am a Christian,” “I am a believer,” “I read the bible,” and “I pray.” These phrases do have meaning, but have you ever gone through the test and run the paces? Have you ever wanted to give up and stop believing, stop praying, stop maintaining, or give in to exhaustion? Through it all do you keep your faith and do you find your peace?

Life serves as a great lesson for all of us during some of the most challenging times. It is not that we should feel that we can’t overcome heartache and pain, but we should find peace after we have gone through the challenges. Losing loved ones puts you in a place where you accept that they are no longer with you. You won’t be getting the late-night phone calls or the snarky remarks, or the laughter that caused your ribs to ache. The memories of it all become clearer and more precious. And although your life has been altered, the one thing you do find is peace.

There is peace in knowing where your loved ones are. There is peace in knowing that you honored them because you honored God’s assignment for you in their lifetime. When you have done all that you could do in a loving way, there is no guilt, regret, or shame. What you come to realize is that you have entered another season of life that may have fewer people, be a little more lonely, and present a great deal of clarity. It is the season of looking at your own life, your bucket list, and your own mortality. However, the greatest gift in this season is peace. There is a peace that you have remained faithful, prayed, felt the presence of God, heard His voice, and understood that you are where He has placed you for this season. A new season will often find you in a new place within your heart, head, and soul, and a new season will often give you a new perspective, clarity, and a new sense of peace. Embrace it!
