What’s Your Season of Deliverance?

“For everything, there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. – Ecclesiastes 3:1

This is definitely the time of year for reflection. The air is a little crisper; the leaves are changing colors, and the days are becoming shorter. Gone are the long, hot days of summer, the carefree afternoons with friends, and the evenings at the lake. As we change seasons, how many of us are feeling restless, feeling as though something is missing in our lives, feeling that there has to be more, or just feeling weary? There are many reasons, but sometimes we just have to accept that we are in a season of change.

This year has brought about challenges for many people and a great sense of being overwhelmed. Some are facing living life alone, battling diseases, dissolving marriages, losing loved ones, overworking, self-induced stresses, finding a place to belong, connecting to a church, fighting with mental illness, struggling with abandonment, and finding one’s self. There are so many obstacles that tear at our psyche that if we are not careful, we will lose who we are. And we do not want others to decide who we should be. So how do we get out of this overwhelming pit? How do we get delivered from the place(s) where we stand? We communicate! We pray!

We live in a world where superficial answers are a natural response. As a courtesy, we encounter friends and say, “Hello, how are you doing?” The most common responses are “I am fine. I am doing well. I am okay.” We don’t convey the truth. If we are like this in our everyday tasks, how are we when we communicate with God? Are we superficial and going through the motions? Or are we honest about where we are in our lives? No matter how we respond, God knows, He hears, and He has not abandoned us.

When we think of crying out to God in despair and in celebration, Psalms 61: 1-2 states, “Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth, I call you, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

In this Psalm, David reminds us that God will be with us no matter where we are. Sometimes a change is a necessary catalyst to deliver us in our current seasons. What will be your season of deliverance?
