Be Still and Know

The world has slowed down in the past month. Our world has gone from the hustle and bustle of racing to the job, to the second job, to the restaurants, to meet friends, to little league, to church, and home. We have become so accustomed to being on the go that we don’t fully understand what it means to stop and just be still. It’s amazing when we’re still how insightful and reflective we become. In stillness, we can actually hear birds singing, the wind rustling the grass, the buzzing of bees, the curls of laughter coming from small neighborhood children, and we can actually hear our heartbeat. Amazing what slowing down and being cognizant of the little things around us can do. If we’re quiet enough and still enough, we may hear God speaking to us. Oh yes, He does speak! I imagine that we have been told to “Be Still and know that I am God.” The question is have we heard? Find a place that’s quiet, a place that will not offer any distractions, and listen to God speaking to you:

In the midst of a day

When the hassles of life impede progress
You whisper, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Not really understanding

Not listening

Not surrendering

And still dwelling in the chaos caused by man

You whisper, “Be still and know that I am God.”

The intuition of your call is here

The spirit of your presence is here

Your visibility is here

And everything that we need engulfs us

And still, we don’t respond

Or understand your call to“Be still and know that you are God.”
When all triumphs have no meaning

And victories are empty

We hear you call out to us

To listen

To obey

To submit

To “Be still because you are God.”
When life is good, we give thanks

But then continue the fast pace

To accomplish,

Meet the standards,

Make the grade,

Seal the deal,

And impress those around us.

And yet with gentleness and patience,

You whisper, “Be still and know that I am God.”
When we question life’s meaning

The opportunities before us

And what lies ahead,

We think in the way of man

who measures success in a finite manner.

We also think in the way of our own sinful nature

In dollars and cents,

And despite our shortcomings, you still whisper to us

“Be still and know that I am God.”
Eventually, we finally sit still and hear you

Feel you
See your truth revealed

For we are nothing without you.

We can’t exist or make a difference without you

Finally, we listen and we sit still

We rest quietly with an open heart to hear you say,

“Thank you, my child, for you have listened

And you are still understanding and knowing that I am God.”

How often have we let life get in the way of our time with Him? Let’s enjoy this time of peacefulness and stillness. Remember in our stillness, He is God.
